Mariia Shvedova
Summer Research Assistant
My name is Mariia Shvedova, and I'm a sophomore at Hunter College (CUNY) majoring in Clinical Psychology and minoring in Biology. I'm originally from Kyiv, Ukraine, and came to the United States in 2022 as a refugee fleeing the war. My experience with war helped me realize that I want to help people and provide competent psychological support to those facing difficult circumstances related to traumatic events. I'm particularly interested in research on AI integration in psychotherapy and how technology can ethically support mental health care systems while understanding how it can impact the quality of a given psychological care and the importance of empathy and human connection. After graduation, I plan to pursue a PsyD in Clinical Psychology with aspirations to open a private practice and conduct psychological research. I also volunteer with Ukrainian children and immigrant families, and I'm a Secretary of the Ukrainian Club at Hunter College, where I help organize events. In my free time, I love to travel, visit museums, exhibitions, and cultural events, read books, and spend time with friends.
