A huge congratulations to EDEN Lab seniors, Andrew Dowling and Delaney Smith, for completing their Honors Psychology theses under the mentorship of Dr. Waller and presenting their incredible work! Both Andrew and Delaney used preliminary data from the Promoting Empathy and Affiliation in Relationships (PEAR) Study. Andrew’s thesis, Neighborhood and Parental Influences on Vocabulary Proficiency in Early Childhood, examined associations between neighborhood risk, bedtime routine, and preschooler’s vocabulary abilities. Delaney’s thesis, Social Referencing and Fear Response Behaviors in Early Childhood: Examining Callous-Unemotional Traits Through the Stranger Task, leveraged computer-vision models to investigate how young children respond to a social threat in the presence of a caregiver.
